About Us

Alexandria City is home to a diverse array of businesses and non-profits that engage in reuse directly or incorporate it in their business model. These organizations are a vital asset to our City’s economy and should be organized and united in effectively marketing our vibrant reuse movement. The Reuse Alexandria coalition will galvanize environmentally conscious DC-area residents and visitors to seek out Alexandria as a destination for shopping and recreation.

Reuse Alexandria unites Alexandria’s reuse community and markets Alexandria as a desirable destination for environmentally conscious visitors and residents. We are implementing a multi-stage approach to bringing awareness of the diversity of our City’s reuse businesses and organizations. Initially, we are branding and organizing the city’s reuse movement through the Reuse Alexandria website and accompanying media materials. We intend to capitalize on this branding effort through coordinated marketing and outreach events that will benefit participant organizations.

Reuse is the second most preferable waste handling option on the US EPA waste hierarchy. Only avoiding and reducing waste is more desirable than reuse, and recycling is less desirable than reuse. The propensity especially of younger consumers to patronize socially responsible businesses makes reuse an essential category for future growth of Alexandria’s economy.

Reuse businesses are a specialized niche of retailers that provide unique and affordable products with an emphasis on personal service. Reuse products are often original, rare and of a better quality than items that are bought new.

Reuse Alexandria non-profit organizations incorporate reuse practices into their daily operations and/or benefit from reuse contributions from local businesses.

Reuse Alexandria supply chain businesses contribute to the reuse movement by donating unwanted materials to local agencies, non-profit organizations, residents and other businesses.

Reuse supports important social and educational causes in our community!
